A part of the human temperature control system is called the perspiration system.

Let us suppose when the temperature of the surrounding becomes too high the sweat glands secrete heavily inducing cooling of the skin by evaporation. Secretions are reduced when the desired cooling effect is achieved or when the surrounding temperature falls sufficiently.

The input of this system may be “normal” or comfortable skin temperature. a ‘setpoint’ or the air temperature, a physical variable. The output is the actual skin temperature.

Body temperature is monitored and controlled by a part of the brain called the hypothalamus When body temperature is too high, the hypothalamus sends nerve impulses to effectors that lower body temperature. When body temperature is low, it sends nerve impulses to effectors that raise body temperature. Responding to a change by reversing it is called negative feedback.
